Ready for the shocking truth about braces & orthodontics?
All orthodontic treatment is bad for the face.
My orthodontist Dr. Gibbs knows this to be the truth after studying lifetime of results in this field over 40 years of practice, Dr. Mews know this… they lecture about it, they write medical journals about it only to get it turned down. Yet millions of kids are getting orthodontics and having their beauty robbed from them.
The establishment does not want to admit that their practice is damaging people’s faces, even though evidence is staring right at them.
This is why it is so important now that if you are going through orthodontics or your child, you have to educate yourself on this subject and be ready to challenge your orthodontist at any turn necessary. We are dealing with an occupation that is stuck in the stone ages and shrouded in ignorance.
I am direct sufferer of this, as I went through 4 bicuspid extraction at 18 years old to straighten my teeth out. 2 years after braces came off I had a very narrow palate and dealt with health and self-esteem issues with my teeth for 2 years till I had enough and now I’m going through orthodontics a second time to reverse everything that was done. I explain this in more personal detail with picture in my members only article.
My new orthodontist, Dr. Gibbs, has been in practice since 1962. Not a typo. He entered into semiretirement in 2005, and following retirement he was interested in analyzing the result of his treatment over the past 40 years.
He has gathered this lifetime worth of data and wrote a medical journal on it, and gave me the journal to read last appointment. It is literally his life’s work.
And what his evidence shows as clear as day is that all traditional orthodontic treatment sucks, it lengthens the face and causes vertical growth.
It is now a widely accepted fact that the long term success of orthodontic treatment is dependent on the direction of growth and that forward growing faces look better and have straighter teeth.
Big Difference in Cheek line.
The most noticeable difference in cheekline. girl on the left has a cheek line that goes forwards while the girl on the right has almost vertical cheekline, which shows the maxilla grew downwards. This difference is not in the genetics but in growth patterns affected by enviornment. The girl on the left grew as nature intended. The girl on the right grew unfavorably, & she also went through braces which didn’t help. Number of people getting this unfavorable vertical growth is increasing, & I was one of them.
The picture above shows the direction of growth of the maxilla. Note the “Adult Begg 4 Bicuspid Extraction” shows growth of 122 which shows the maxilla growing down and backwards. Even non-extraction data shows almost straight vertical growth direction. The Bolton norm is like the average of people that never need orthodontics they have naturally straight teeth and they don’t have as much vertical growth as kids that need orthodontics. It’s today’s average ideal face. However take a look at biobloc cases, they actually had more horizontal growth than the average ideal.
Dr. Gibbs in the beginning of his career was routinely extracting 4 bicuspids to straighten the teeth in 75% to 80% of the cases this was back in the 70’s, it was the standard practice at the time to reduce over jet by extracting and retracting the front teeth back. however he was often disappointed with how the face and smile looked afterwards.
He began incorporating different techniques to avoid extractions, where from the 80’s onwards he was only extracting 10%-15% of the cases. This is straight wire non extraction cases.
During that time in early 80’s he was going to different lectures learning about functional appliance and such but was finding out that most of it was not making much difference to the face from the straight wire techniques that he was already using.
The turning point of his career came in mid 80’s when he heard his colleague, speak about a Dr. from England lecturing about facial growth and that he was claiming that children with over jet has their maxilla too far back.
This statement got Dr. Gibbs attention right away because all up until then all orthodontic literature has taught him to retract over jet cases (bring everything back) but he was often seeing the measurement of his patients and finding that their maxilla was too far back. So he knew right away something was different about this man’s lecture and he booked his flight to Florida right away to go listen to this Dr. from England, Dr. John Mew.
The rest is history.. as they say…
For the next several weeks & month, his sole interest became all about learning biobloc / orthotropics. He put his practice on hold, took the whole weekend course and then booked another flight to come back and take another course only a week after. When he saw the pictures of the results that Dr. John Mew was getting, he knew right away he had to learn everything that this man was teaching. Dr. Gibbs explained to me that it was like going back to orthodontic school for the very first time, all of the concepts that Dr. John Mew was teaching was a complete 180 degrees from what he had be taught in dental/orthodontic school.
The famous twin case
This one picture should really be enough to settle this argument…
Look at the before pictures, both twins look relatively the same, but look how they look after treatment. Orthotropics brought the jaws forwards, while traditional orthodontics went backwards. Notice again the difference in the cheek line.
Faces with Forward Growth.
to make a stronger point for forward growth of jaws.
Model above is an example of forward grown face. Which is the correct growth of the skull.
Japanese girl above treated by orthotropics / biobloc: Look at the difference in the distance from her ears to the lips, to see how much forward her jaws have been brought forward so that her face is approaching closer to the face of the model above. And notice the dramatic change to her face especially the eyes.
Why Braces Suck
Try to google “model side profile” and see without exception that all people with superior beauty have this forward grown jaws.
Look up at the chart above again from Dr. Gibb’s journal.
Braces always encourage vertical growth.
There’s many factors to this but to look at this simply, braces attach to all your teeth and they are tightened each month’s appointment, so that teeth that were out of alignment are forced to align since the wire that teeth are attached to keeps getting tightened.
Which teeth will win this tug of war battle now going on in your mouth. Your back molars with strong big roots or your front teeth with small roots.
It starts becoming plain as day to see that yes of course the back teeth will win this war and therefore all your front teeth are gradually pulled back in the face.
As the front teeth are dragged back, the lower jaw has to come back with it to keep a normal bite. you will lose your jawline and get a receding chin. Your teeth will fall back and down, exposing more gums when you smile and show less teeth. The smile will get more narrow so even though teeth may be straight, you will not have the breathtaking smile we had hope for.
All the while, the face is growing down and back resulting in lengthening the face, the cheek lines becoming flatter and flatter. The face is going in the opposite direction from the models.
Compromised Air Way, Sleep Apnea, as a result of orthodontics
As the jaws go back, you lose space for your tongue and during sleep tongue will falls back into the throat and begins to compromise your airway. This is the beginning of sleep apnea. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea (where they hook you up to a electronic monitor) but some have it a lot worse than I did, I was only 23, and I’m sure my sleep apnea condition would have worsened over time as I got older. Needless to say, after 2 years of reversing everything, now at 25 I notice huge improvement in my sleep where I feel like I get way more rest, I no longer snore and I sleep with my mouth closed. As far as I am concerned:
The real cure for Sleep Apnea is to expand the palate and grow the jaw forwards. (create more tongue space)

Understanding all of this, no one can justify in their right mind that braces are worth it just to straighten some teeth.
If you are gonna get treated with traditional braces because you have bit of crowding, avoid it like the plague. You are better off with a bit of crowding than having the braces put on that will begin to erode your face away and give you gummy smiles like the boy in the above picture.
To treat crowding, You always want to expand, and bring things forwards.
Another famous case, This girl had an overjet so orthodontists tried to correct it by pushing the teeth back, it is another case example that highlights the damage of traditional orthodontics and how it lengthens face, and the cheek line gets flatter.
Now she was also in headgear because the orthodontists couldn’t resolve the overjet with braces alone, so it may be more extreme than some cases but it is a clear view of as the maxilla is pushed back, it doesn’t just go back in the face but it “swings” down and back.
Remember if you have “buck teeth” or “over jet” you never ever want to fix that by bringing the teeth back. The truth is your buck teeth is not too far forward if anything its still too far back, and the rest of your teeth and jaws are too far back in relation to the front teeth giving it the illusion that you have protruding teeth.
Orthodontists are ruining faces in the pursuit of trying to “straighten teeth” because they only focus on the teeth and don’t realize the effect their treatment is having on jaw development and how profound of an effect jaw development has on facial aesthetics. My orthodontist’s 40 years of hard evidence shows that with standard orthodontics in the process of moving teeth, the face always grew downwards. The patient’s teeth crowding issues are really jaw issues. The correct treatment is one that tries to correct the jaws, by encouraging them to grow forwards.
Focusing on just straightening teeth alone is stupid & plain ignorant. Patients want straight teeth but they will value a better looking face more.
Studies show that orthodontic treatment do not yield any significant benefit to the patient in the long run, & it does nothing good for the face, it could be quite damaging if especially extraction is involved. Most people do not realize the damages to their face until it is too late. Since skeletal dystrophy is a slow process.
Orthotropics is vastly different from regular orthodontists in that they actually deal with the real underlying problem. And they make the face better after treatment.
The only problem is this technique is only available for 8-12 year olds.
What if you’re an adult and already went through traditional orthodontics? and feel like your face was damaged? or you never had orthodontics fortunately but you still feel your face could have grown more ideal?
Is it possible to regain some of that forward growth as adults?
