What affects our jawline? How our muscles influence the shape of our face and jaws.
Is a Perfect Lip Seal Essential?
“The Tropic Premise would suggest the severity of a malocclusion depends on the degree to which the oral posture is faulty. However I have learned that even a small improvement in oral posture will maintain a considerable improvement in the long-term dento/facial result. It would be logical to assume that this applies to other methods of treatments as well but probably only if room is created for the tongue and some effort is made to improve muscle tone.” -John Mew
The key take is that even small efforts to improve your oral posture and muscle tone would have an effect. For those that have been following this blog for few months must have already begun to see subtle results as I have.
The core message for adult facial remodeling comes to this simple fact. Bone is at the effect of our muscles.
Bone is an interesting thing it seems to have an ability to resist short term strong force. If it didn’t, every time we chewed hard on something our face would squash. However it does seems susceptible to long term forces.
But this is also true of other things, such as river can smooth out stones overtime.
I believe even at very subtle levels, daily increased mastication is having an effect because muscle gets stronger, thicker, & tighter which is putting different forces on the skull.
Botox treatment in which they inject muscle paralyzing substance to weaken the masseter muscle to reduce the size of lower jaw, shows the muscle tone effect on the mandible.
They claim that it is the reduced muscle size, but it is clear to see that bone mass and shape is affected. This treatment is often performed on people that clench. One theory of why people clench is that their tongue is not on the roof of the mouth to counter balance the jaw closing muscle.
Did Brad Pitt Have Stronger Jawline in the Past?
I believe most people dystrophy over time, many causes to this. Brad’s jaws were definitely more pronounced in the past and the face was shorter & wider. What is the cause of the change?
The notion that our environment has an effect on us is nothing new, but would people believe that the environment can influence the face?
Some likely causes
- When Brad was younger, he was a lot more physically active and ate a lot more. Now with his busy schedule of work and taking care of many kids, and being older he eats less and possibly softer foods = less mastication.
- Or does Testosterone levels have anything to do with it? More T levels = more muscle tone?
- Did he have a habit of chewing gum in the past
- More stressful lifestyle in the past of being a young actor and having an uncertain future ahead, did he manage this stress but chewing gum / clenching his jaws time to time. Now with great success and different focus, he fires off his masseters much less?
Humans reflect animal behaviors, a dog in aggressive mode begins clenching their jaws, could the same be true for Humans that have more aggressive personality or driven individuals that is going after life aggressively. Will that yield any difference in the jaws? It’s an interesting thought.
What we know for certain is that people with developed jawline have stronger jaw muscles than those with less developed jawline.
Change in environment could be as simple as adopting a tough gum chewing habit, which will surely have an effect on your jawline more than anything else.
I found some new tough gums, I will write about soon so stay tuned.

Falim gum + mixing with cold water = intense jaw workout. I add half a piece every 1-2 weeks. I’m at 2.5 pieces and definitely notice an increase in muscle tone and size
Can you explain what is this cold water? do you drink cold water than you chew?
I’m fouding Falim gum soft, would like to know if there is something harder in the market

How is the biobloc appliance adjusted for forward expansion? I can see the midscrew expands laterally, but how does the sagittal expansion happen? Just curious. 🙂
Great post as always!
the wires in the front of biobloc can be adjusted to go more forwards after each appointment
Will be glad to find out where to purchase some tough gums in Australia!
Will tongue posture help flat cheekbones? Mine are really flat, like an abnormal person. Pls help
Yes tongue posture helps with the front cheekbones, and chewing helps with side cheekbones
Do wisdom teeth extractions cause jaw atrophy/recession in your opinion? Thanks so much!
AFAIK Brad Pitt became a vegan/vegetarian at some point in his life. I’m sure you know the implications of that.
