I was listening to David Wilcock’s talks today and he brought up something very interesting. And it is that when one studies film, one realizes all films tell the same story and filmmakers are taught to tell the story in this structure, this pattern of story telling has been identified as The Hero’s Journey by Joseph Campbell.
Why do almost all film follow this structure? Because this is the story that we all love. According to David, this is the story of the Universe. It is the DNA of our consciousness…
Joseph Campbell identified it as basic three step structure.
Seperation -> Initiation -> Return
Filmmakers add a fourth step..which goes like this:
Seperation -> Initiation -> Illumination -> Return
“So when you see a film, your watching a Hero character who has series of obvious problems at the beginning. Who then has a defining event in their lives, that makes them WANT something really badly. In order to obtain their goal, they have to go through all these obstacles to get it, and along the way the obstacles make them confront their deepest flaws, and ultimately they have to drop those flaws in order to obtain the goal.
Once they obtain the goal, there’s a big celebration and that’s the end of the film… and the credits roll.
So Act 1: is when the character is established and their goal is defined.
Act 2: The procedure of them following their quest for the goal.
Act 3: The ultimate face off against their nemesis, which in story structure is essentially the mirror, inverted form of themselves. Which usually has to come down to the hero facing the villain, that represent all the negative aspects of their flaws, translated into actual physical character, which they then defeat. And in the process of defeating this character, they are defeating their own inner flaws.
-David Wilcock further states…
This is the DNA of the consciousness of our galaxy. This is something that is going to happen in every planet of the galaxy.
So if you don’t like Hollywood structure… Well guess what it’s going to happen in every other planet. That’s just the way it is.”
One very obvious example of this that pops into my mind is the story of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. There is a scene when Luke enters a cave and faces his shadow self. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zjhy51XW9MY
And I recall one person describing Star Wars as the story of our universe, I remember him saying that we have all been Darth Vader and we have all been Luke Skywalker. If you believe our souls are millions of years old, this is very plausible? And according to many sources, now is the time where Humanity is given an opportunity to ascend, and the process of ascension is to integrate the darkness. By integration, David again said it beautifully, in order to ascend we have to show love towards the darkness, instead of condemning it. This is the only way to truly get past the lesson, otherwise the lesson will repeat again. The concept that, when we angrily leave that person or that situation in our life, that person or situation will return since we have failed to really look at what that situation or person was trying to tell us about ourselves. This is a concept, I am familiar with, but it is nice to hear reminders every once in a while.
-But anyway, this thing about “the story of the universe” stirred up somethings for me, and I could really identify my life with this concept…this made me feel a sense that my life is happening on purpose… or that sense that there is divinity behind the things in our lives?
Can you identify your life with the Hero’s Journey?
